The We Are Railfans podcast goes stateside! With so many of our social media followers, readers and podcast listeners hailing from the USA, we were delighted to get the opportunity in our latest podcast episode to talk to an American railroad engineer in the form of Mr. Jim Rooney of NJ TRANSIT.

NJ TRANSIT are no strangers to We Are Railfans, having featured in our RailfanFest event earlier this year. For the podcast, Jim talks about his wealth of experience in the cabs of a variety of locomotives, on many routes, over many decades.

You can listen to the episode here:

NJ TRANSIT operate a large number of bus, light rail and railroad services throughout the State of New Jersey as well as parts of Pennsylvania and New York. Jim has been working on the railroad since September 11th 1987 and worked in the train as a ticket inspector before getting the chance to be a conductor and then a locomotive engineer in 1988.

NJ-Transit-E8 Jim talks fondly of the E8 locomotives once run by the Pennsylvania Railroad and then the New Jersey Department of Transportation. This example in the livery of the latter, is NJ TRANSIT no.4253. Photo c/o NJ TRANSIT.
